We strive to be different.
We are set apart among men. We know it is better to serve God than it is to serve man. Our church services are designed to honor and glorify God as a first priority. We meet together each week with the sole purpose of praising him, growing in knowledge, strength and purpose, becoming better stewards of the provisions he has so generously bestowed, and openly seeking correction for where we have failed in our lives. At Calvary Baptist Church, we feel the purpose of church is in no way to improve our social lives or make meaningful connections with other Christians. These are natural byproducts of true Christian fellowship, not the purpose.
The Bible is our guide.
The Bible was given to us as a gift from God so that we all may consult God’s comfort, God’s grace, the story of God’s son, and God’s will for us as we walk daily in a hostile world. When a church stands based on the word of God and the truth of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, it is based on the solid rock and we have God’s promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against it. We teach that the Bible, that is, the authorized King James Version 1611, is unerring, infallible, unchanging, irrevocable, and eternal.
For the sake of your family, it is necessary to set standards regarding the Word of God with the understanding that any compromise, corruption or simplification detracts from the purpose of the Bible: to provide clear, reliable, consistent guidance through times of trouble as well as times of joy.
We are a refuge in a troubled world.
Our church is set apart and preserved by the powerful workings of the Holy Spirit and the intervention of God. Our church is founded on Jesus Christ. “He [Jesus Christ] is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” (Colossians 1:18) The Holy Spirit, working through our Preacher and his wife and their commitment to holy integrity, authenticity in worship and the sacred truth of the word of God, strengthens our church and provides us a shelter in otherwise dark world. God willing, CBC is and will always be a holy refuge, a sanctuary, for weary travelers on their journey home.
We are a City on a Hill.
We were called to be the Light of the World, the salt of the earth, a city on a hill that cannot be hid, by Jesus Christ himself. The role of the church today has not changed in all this time. We are supposed to be a light to the world, reflecting the power and love of Jesus Christ our Savior for all the world to see. We are supposed to be the salt of the earth, adding flavor and preservation. We are supposed to live in such a way as to be an example to the dying world. We cannot do this if we ourselves are living worldly lives. We must live separated. We can only do this if we are fully and truly immersed in the living, breathing, never-changing Word of God. We, as a church, have a duty to our community, to serve in a way that exemplifies the power and sovereignty of the Lord God. We must “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 KJV)
We purpose to grow in our walk with the Lord.
As believers, we meet at church with one sacred purpose: to grow in our knowledge of the Lord. This comes through study, fellowship, praise, worship and Godly rebuke. As Christians, it is our role to sustain one another and strengthen one another so that we do not fall. “For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:10 KJV)
We desire to be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understand so that we “might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness, giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:10-14 KJV)
We pledge to promote Christian character.
It has been said that you are what you eat. The same is true for a believer. If you are only being fed spiritually non-nourishing food, you will never grow to your full potential as a laborer for Christ. Every believer must strive for growth in his or her life. From the moment of salvation, we are made to grow. For growth to occur, however, spiritual nourishment must first be sought. The Bible is clear about seeking God and the promise to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Coming to church is one of the ways God designed for us to receive instruction and understanding. It is meant to create a network of like-minded individuals who can support, encourage and strengthen one another.
Our worship has meaning.
We do not meet out of established habit, but rather with the intent of worshiping the one true God. Our church is alive. The Holy Spirit’s power is felt and we are moved to act. A church that is dead is no longer part of what Christ and early Christians referred to as the church. The purpose of our services, songs and sermons is to get to know God on a deeper level, to worship him more completely, to understand his will for us, his plans for us and the purpose of our existence so that we may better serve him in our daily lives. Everything we do at Calvary Baptist Church in Clover is so that God receives the glory.
